On older motorcycles where rust and wear have taken place fabrication is sometimes needed to repair the frame and swing arm.

The usual problems are swing arm linkages and pivots where bolts have become loose or bearings seized and also where water and mud have been allowed to congregate over time allowing rust to eat the metal.

As can be seen with these pictures this frame has had new sleeves machined and welded into place to replace the elongated ones where a shock linkage bolt was left loose allowing movement of the bolt instead of the bearing.
It has also had a small section of subframe welded into place as after sand blasting the metal here was shown to be very thin due to rust where mud had got inside of the tube.
Many other stress cracks were ground out and re-welded to strengthen the frame.

Bushes and spacers can also be fabricated and this rear hub has had an entire new sleeve machined and pressed into it as a new brake liner for the drum brake, this is also a common wear point and all drums will have a maximum OD dimension. On older machines this wear limit will inevitably be very near or even passed.
They can also wear slightly oval in shape which gives a pulse sensation on the brake lever so this would be another reason for a new sleeve.
